Loving & living with a special needs child

1.4.2003

as a side note - the whole shots thing? i don't agree that the drug companies should be protected from lawsuits, but i also don't think a shot causes autism. if it doies, the incidence is really low. and recent reading i've done is pointing to something that happens so early in a pregnancy, the woman doesn;t even know she's pregnant yet.

and i suppose that just goes to show that we need to take care of ourselves.

oh so many things to update. the biggest one: taz returned back to school this week and adjusted really quickly. no tantrums and very little other difficulties at all. he's always liked going to school, but even so usually has some adjustment issues when he returns. apparently the plans we set in motion with his last i.e.p. are helping a lot, particularly the brushing. that sounds weird, i'm sure, but using a very soft bristled o.t. brush all over his body really helps him to calm down.

for christmas he got a few of his favorite things and a few things from his o.t. equipment list. he wasn't too impressed with the puzzles and is still trying to figure out twister. lol after watching him try twister a couple of times, i can see why it was on his equipment list. ;) he needs an adult sitting nearby helping him put his limbs in the right place. his absolute favorite present this year: the hotwheels velocity x game for playsation 2. he wants to play it the entire time he's home. and, of course, he loves the movies we got for him and the other kids.

another piece of good news: we finally got the doctor's letter so he can keep his dog! the housing complex has been very patient while we waited for that, thankfully. she's become so much a part of the family it would really suck if we had to get rid of her. the trainer says it's time to have him start treating her so she'll listen to his commands. and she sleeps with him every night once i go to bed.

things are going really well for my boy. :)
