Taz and I went to his OT appointment today, where he tried some new skills with varying degrees of success. The first thing he had to do was use some walking boards. These look like skis; he stands on one end, holding onto some ropes between his toes (that's right), with the handles in his hands, while another kid behind him does the same. Then they're supposed to walk in unison. Taz picked up on this concept pretty quickly. In fact, he also showed potential for a future career as a motivational speaker or a drill sergeant (as an Army veteran, I know they're pretty much the same thing.) He'd be on the board going, "Come on! Come on! Move it!" He then learned the jump rope: first he jumped in place, then over a stationary rope, then a moving rope, and finally timing his jumps to get over the rope swinging over him. He was kinda hazy on identifying shapes in a bag. I mean, I would point to the one I wanted, but it wouldn't always be the one he pulled out. There was one skill he was very weak on. We had a board, with 25 evenly spaced nails in it. He was to take a rubber band, and loop it over certain nails in order to make a geometric pattern. This one pretty much eluded him. I mean, he may end up making a triangle, for instance, but not exactly as on the pattern shown. He's supposed to have another appointmet in two weeks, but I had to cancel it: I'm having my annual physical then (besides---it's my birthday!)
