something is really up with my son, has been for at least 2 or 3 weeks now (before the doctor's appointment) and his behavior is only getting worse. he doesn't like his baths any more, or tv any more, he argues with everyone and even flipped off our roomie who's watched him for years. he comes home from school and complains of tummy aches and ear aches and all kinds of things. i am distressed by this...he was doing so well and now? i dunno...he's being extremely disruptive, even weetting the bed or the floor of his bedroom at times. i just don't know....the only change he seemed to accept well and by the time he started behaving like this, the adjustment period he usually needs had passed. i'm at a loss. :(

Last Wednesday, Domynoe and I (Jewel too) took Kristav to see Dr Leong, his behavioral pediatrician. His medications were changed. Up until then, he had been taking Ritalin 10mg after breakfast, and clonidine (or Catapres) 0.1mg in the morning and 0.2mg at bedtime. Now, he is taking Concerta 18mg in the morning (Domy gives it, as he doesn't have to wait until after breakfast). Concerta is basically a longer lasting form of Ritalin. The clonidine he will be weaned off of, so in three weeks he won't be taking it anymore. If, by then, he still needs something at bedtime (knowing Kristav, that's a no-brainer), Domy can give him 5mg of Ritalin. The reason for the change are twofold: Kristav's behavior at home and school have taken a downturn (he head-butted a TA in the ear before I picked him up), and it's been found that the Ritalin-clonidine combination can be stressful on the heart (Ritalin increases blood pressure, clonidine lowers it).
