is there a medication out there that DOESN'T make them irritable and leaves appetites alone. we're having a bad day here. it's the fifth saturday of the month so the respite worker gets today off (we get 24 hours in a month, and use 6 hours each day he is here). this did not go down well with kristav and we have been having trouble all day. tantrums...the high pitched shrieking tantrums i had hoped had quit. yuck..that kid could break an ear drum....mine. and he's definately off in his appetite. breakfast is fine..it's the other meals that go downhill. i am just letting him spin today. seems the best we can do with his schedule all messed up and no tv for him to watch videos on.

we're having problems with kristav eating again. fave foods are getting picked at. sigh. however, mike seems to have found a solution: soda. last night he wouldn't touch his food, which included mac & cheese (which has been one of his favorites!). he picked a little, then pushed it away. wouldn't drink his milk either. so mike told him, eat your food and we'll give you soda...and HE ATE! not all of it mind you.but most of the mac & cheese. and i thought i had finally gotten out of buying it! well..if he eats, then the expense is worth it. but i still think we need to find a medication without an affect on the appetite, although even mine has a warning about queasiness (and yes i do get queasy!), so i wonder if there IS a drug for adhd that doesn't affect the tummy and appetite? but we're noticing irritability and tantrums are back on the rise as well. i am going to wait a week or so and see if he mellows out...

doctor's instructions: give kristav 1/2 a pill for a week. if behavior does not improve, increase to a whole pill.
after a week we decide it needs to be increased.
school: we need an order from the doctor telling us to increase it to a whole pill.
so dad goes and gets order froma doctor (like the week of the 14th)
I, assuming that the school is on program with this, start giving kristav a whole pill for his medication rather than half a pill on weekends.
NEVER assume with the school ditrict. turns out they were still giving him half a pill while i am giving him a whole pill. he can't adjust to its affects, his behavior and appetite has been more off than before, he's more irritable. it takes time for the body to adjust to a new medication, and he hasn't had a chance because his dosage keeps changing! :( on top of that, the school wants us to put him on the FIRST medication because it "worked better", but that is also the one that had him not eating at all. yea..i want to starve my kid with his medication..NOT!
so now we are going to get the school on track and he's going to have a whole pill every day, and we're going to keep trying the medication for another week or so. get a better idea of its affects. but i have a sneaking suspicion i may want to try something else..something that doesn't affect appetite if at all possible.

couldn't have said it better! :) what i always tell my girls, or i should say, used to tell them because they now understand is that kristav thinks differently. it has helped them learn to deal withhim better. but it would be more accurate to say that he perceives differently and it is a matter of reaching him where he perceives things...
