mike is so good with kristav. kristav plays rough, he likes rough housing. but he doesn't know how to be aware of "too much" for other people, as a result people get hurt when he rough houses. mike is able to take kristav's roughness and then some. mike has been laying on the couch letting kristav do his thing and tickling him and playing along. every now and then he cries "wolf" - needs a break, so mike will let him go, only to be attacked seconds later. :)

we had the triannual i.e.p today, the one that comes after a multitude of psych tests and other stuff..IF you can get the kid to sit down long enough! in our case, that apparently didn't work too well. anyway, in my book it was a very good meeting, one of the rare times i felt we ALL were pretty much in concensus. the schools psych is going ot change his eligability for special ed to multiple disabilities (it was originally based on his speech needs), which will now take into account the retardation, adhd and autism. FINALLY the autism is being aknowledged! THANK GOD! turns out however, irc (the inland regional center, which originally diagnosed him) STILL hasn't received the medical records form the doctor who first acknowledged an autistic component in his disabilities. it's only been FIVE requests. dad is going to get another form from irc and go in and WAIT for them to hand him the records next time.
we have all agreed that the medication is having mixed results. his appetite is still good and his sleep patterns haven't changed dramatically. this is good in my book. on the positive scale of things, he is more sedate (less hyper) and his speech is slower and clearer. on the negative end of things, he is less focused and more irritable.
he's going to get more social/interactive speech therapy at school now. i am hoping that will eliminate the tantrums some, allowing him to express himself rather than hitting and screaming. the school gave me a list of software/games we can get for him on the computer that are at his level, right now he tries to play the girls games, but with him 1-2 years behind in everything something that is for 9-12 year olds really doesn't work for him. he does try tho! :) most of his other i.e.p. goals from 2 months ago are also still in place, so nothing else changed much.
the autistic diagnoses is so very important for him. he'll get more services from the school, irc and the community, and we can enroll him in a special plan at the university that is specific to autistics. i am so very glad about this! :) so all in all it was a very good meeting!
