Loving & living with a special needs child

another somewhat busy weekend. lots of things going on right now too...
we had friends over saturday for a bar-b-que, one of whom is named doug. all my kids, including kristav really like him. however, for some reason my son can't say doug, so doug is now "ducks" in our home. :)
today i received a phone call from the new school psychologist who is trying to evaluate kristav to see if he needs any changes in his program. she is much more involved than the old one as far as i can tell, having gone so far as contacting all relevant parties for a meeting at the end of the month. i am already impressed. but she mentioned she has an adhd son herself, so that may have a lot to do with it. kristav's appointment to see the doctor got moved to the 17th because the doctor called in sick. so..still no medication. which is ok. he's just all over the place without it and that's nothing new to us! :)
chwis took the kids, including kristav, with him to go check on his new apartment that he's trying to get into. a whole nother story that doesn't belong here, but i thought it was nice that he included kristav, who can be more than hard to look after all by himself, in the invitation to go.
while i look on all this activity as good stuff, i know it all will make it harder for kristav to settle into a routine, so am prepared for more than a few troublesome days ahead. sometimes i think that's the hardest thing about having a differently abled child. because you know how they react, you have to prepare for the difficult times. a lot moer than with "regular" kids who can be a bit more flexible.
